A “Fear-Factor” workshop, hosted by the FSCS Clinic and Behavior Health team at Alfonso T. Moody Academy, was held on Oct. 26 during student lunch blocks. According to Thalia Contreras, Treatment Coordinator at Alfonso T. Moody Academy, the program featured discussions aimed to help students manage their thoughts and actions when they are stressed. The program set out activities that evoked feelings in order to create learning opportunities for the students.
Students enthusiastically participated, attempting each activity without being prompted by the consolation prize of candy. The students not only engaged with the program, but with each other, recognizing that they each face these feelings head-on. Students walked away with a better understanding of the difference between certain emotions, with tips on how to manage emotions and with information concerning people they can talk to if / when emotions become overwhelming.
